Asthma and Allergy Clinic at Perth
A new Adult Asthma and Allergy Unit being established at Perth Royal Infirmary by Dundee University and NHS Tayside is set to offer a significant research boost.
The Perth unit expands the resources available to the University’s Asthma and Allergy Research Group, headed by Professor Brian Lipworth, and complements the resources which the Group already has in place at Ninewells in Dundee.
“We are delighted to work in partnership with the University of Dundee on this important and prestigious research,” said Norman Sutherland, Site Manager at Perth Royal Infirmary.
The Asthma and Allergy Group is already internationally recognised for innovative work in this area looking at a range of treatments for asthma and nasal allergies such as hayfever. Previous research has included everything from the latest drugs to some of the old herbal remedies such as Butterbur. |

The Perth unit will be an additional base for research into all forms of airways disease caused by allergy. This is a time of year when allergies such as hayfever can cause particularly serious problems for many sufferers.
The new unit is already receiving a lot of attention from the people of Perth and local GPs - even before it is officially open. Interested GPs and practice nurses who have not yet seen the unit will be invited to open evenings to see what goes on over the next month.
The Asthma and Allergy Group is particularly keen to hear from anyone who suffers from asthma or nasal allergies, and who may be interested in participating in the group’s work. With this expansion there is an urgent need for additional asthma and nasal allergy volunteers at both the Perth Royal Infirmary and Ninewells, Dundee sites. Contact Perth 01738 473321
