Health Board Meeting over Rannoch OOH Service

NHS Tayside’s Board will meet with MSP John Swinney along with two members of the Rannoch community on Thursday 29 June to consider the case for the retention of GP-provided out of hours healthcare services in the Rannoch and Tummel area .

Prior to the meeting: “I am grateful for the opportunity to directly raise the issue of the out of hours service in the Rannoch and Tummel area with NHS Tayside. Although I have had meetings with representatives of NHS Tayside, this is the first time that the full Board has agreed to meet formally with members of the community.

“I was hugely disappointed that the NHS appeals panel that took the decision to allow the local GP to opt out would not hear direct representations from the community - a fact that was recognised by the Health Minister as an area of concern.

“The situation in the Rannoch and Tummel area is unique in terms of its rural location. It is totally impractical for out of hours services to be delivered by anyone other than a locally based individual. The earliest any emergency cover could now reach Rannoch and Tummel is 40 minutes compared to a previous arrangement when an on-call GP located in Kinloch Rannoch could reach an individual in just a few minutes.

“This has been highlighted time and time again- at public meetings, by correspondence and directly with the Health Minister and NHS Tayside."

He concluded: “I hope that this face to face meeting with NHS Tayside and involving local community members will allow us to make progress and see adequate out of hours care for the Rannoch and Tummel area restored.”
